PARTNERS THERAPEUTIC HORSEMANSHIP

ANNUAL REPORT 2010

FISCAL YEAR 2009

Partners Therapeutic Horsemanship, Inc. is a California Not for Profit Corporation and Federal 501(C) (3) Tax Exempt Corporation. Our Federal Tax ID # is 20-1928582.

We celebrated our fifth anniversary serving those with special needs and our third year at Lone Oak Ranch, 15689 Mountain Valley Place, Lakeside, CA.

We work every year to provide the highest quality, supportive experience to our clients and their families possible within our means. With that goal in mind, Executive Director Karen Crampton, Assistant Director Bobbi Buettgenbach and Certified Instructors Ellie Rose & Erin Ontiveros attended the NARHA Region 11 Conference in Burbank, CA. Karen Crampton also attended a preparation class for NARHA advanced certification and participated in advanced certification held in Seattle. Bobbi Buettgenbach attended a Hunter/Jumper clinic. Continuing education and evaluation of our services allows for improvement and therefore, excellence is a constant at Partners.

What we do, and the core values we have set for this program in East County, must be handled with professionalism so this special type of activity will continue to be available for many more riders with special needs. Involving the community is a priority allowing others to share in our growth and enjoy the benefits that therapeutic riding brings to those  with special needs and their families.
To this end Partners Therapeutic Horsemanship:

Provided over 1300 lessons in 2009

• Added 16 new riders with special needs

Participated in the third Community Expo at the Rodeo Grounds, hoping to further inform our community about the unique benefits of therapeutic riding.

Participated in the Lakeside Western Days Parade sponsored by the LakesideChamber of Commerce.

Karen & Bobbi attended numerous business mixers and made presentations to local community organizations about the program.

Provided a service and informational day for an Upward Bound Program sponsored by the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary.

Provided continuing reports to The Rancho Santa Fe Rotary

Worked with a student through the Grossmont School District to fulfill a class requirement.

Held our Second Annual Horse Show and fund raiser with a BBQ hosted by the Lakeside Optimists. This event provided a showcase for our students, and an invitation to the local community to both participate and observe.

Held several volunteer orientation days to evaluate and instruct prospective new volunteers.

Provided internships for two individuals to obtain NARHA Certification Through a grant from The Rancho Santa Fe Rotary we were able to pay the candidates modest compensation as they provided classes for our special needs students under the direction of a NARHA Certified Instructor. After successfully obtaining their certification one of the students was hired by Partners Therapeutic Horsemanship as our first, and thus far only, paid employee. Continuing support from the Rancho Sante Fe Rotary has, in part, made this possible.

Our valuable volunteer staff has grown to include talented and committed new faces, while retaining most of our wonderful original volunteers. Our volunteers provided 4800 hours of work, which has been valued at over $22.79 per hour in California by a nationwide survey in 2007. (1)This amounts to a dollar value donation in time of $109,392.  With the exception of an instructor who is funded, in part, by a grant from The Rancho Santa Fe Rotary, we have an all-volunteer staff of instructors and directors, so 100% of moneyraised or donated goes directly to support the horses and the lesson program. Five percent (5%) of our riders are on some form of scholarship at this time.

We continue to have the kindest therapeutic horses anyone could hope for. We still have Murphy, Jake, Scarlet, Dingo, Max and Sly, who is owned by student Shane Clarke, andleased to us. There have been a number of changes, however. Mackenzie left for Camp Pendleton and has become a Marine. We received a donation of a large chestnut quarter horse named Vinny, and Ellie’s trail horse, Sherman, has proved to be a welcome addition.

One of the goals of the program has been to increase local community awareness of our services. We are striving to meet these goals as outlined above. We are also participating in the shooting of a documentary about Partners. This film will be used to inform the public about the miracles of our program. Partners continues to be interested in increasing the size of our Board of Directors in order to expand our administrative and fundraising capabilities.
